Golding / Pec pod Snezkou Pec pod Snezkou
Pec pod Snezkou is one of three centres in the Giant Mountains, the highest Czech mountains, mainly used by skiers and admirers of winter sports who have their own back there. Thanks to its altitude and climatic conditions, there is snow in Pec pod Snezkou almost 6 months in a year. However, Pec pod Snezkou does not loose anything of its attractiveness even in the summer time – this part of the Krkonose mountains is interweaved with various paths, which will surely be highly appreciated by fans for hiking and bike-tourism. Pec pod Snezkou (“Furnace under the Snezka mountain”), as its name suggests, is a point of departure for trips to Snezka, the highest mountain in the Czech Republic (you can get to its peak also by cable railway directly from Pec). If you come to Pec pod Snezkou to have a rest or to spend holiday there, you will surely appreciate our offer of selected accommodation opportunities. The apartments and hotels Pec pod Snezkou – these are well-tried accommodation facilities that will become your base for discovering beautiful environs of the Krkonose National Park.
Pec pod Snezkou – HistoryPec pod Snezkou was connected with the mining industry and mining of copper and arsenic ores for long centuries. The mining settlement called “Obri dul” (the Giant’s Mine) belongs to the oldest parts of Pec – the first news of mineral mining comes from the beginning of the 16th century. The mining activities in Pec pod Snezkou were dampened as late as in 1959, and the development of tourism brought a new way of livelihood to Pec’s inhabitants. At first, they provided tourists with accommodation “on hay”. And they gradually adjusted their homes to be able to accommodate guests, building lodges, hotels, family hotels and apartments in the course of time.Pec pod Snezkou – Present TimeAt present, Pec pod Snezkou is a highly-developed touring centre with a well-known skiing area where skiing funs can find a chair-lift and 10 lifts with a capacity of almost 10 thousand persons per hour. The skiers can choose from 11 downhill courses with different difficultness (Javor, Klondike, Zahradky, etc.), while they can use only one magnetic card in the whole skiing area. As well, the modern area offers naturally night skiing on selected downhill courses, artificial snow at a lack of snow, skiing schools and ski-facility lending offices. Apart from other suitable cross-country opportunities, cross-country skiers can join the Krkonose artery in Pec pod Snezkou, crossing the whole mountain ridge. In summer, Pec pod Snezkou offers primarily opportunities for hiking and bike-tourism. Thanks to its high altitude, Pec pod Snezkou is an ideal point of departure for trips to surrounding mountain ridges. The cableway from Pec pod Snezkou to the Snezka mountain can transport tourists through a divide station at “Ruzova hora” (the Rose Mountain) up to an altitude of 1594 m above sea-level from where hiking tourists can continue on marked paths towards Lucni Bouda, Horni Mala Upa or Spindleruv Mlyn.
